Local Lifestyle

While Tarrytown is loved for its waterfront views and accessibility to Lake Austin, the neighborhood is also one of Austin's most laid-back, down-to-earth areas. It's considered a prestigious neighborhood that offers a calm and cozy setting. Being only ten minutes from downtown, you're still close enough to enjoy the nightlife while indulging in well-deserved privacy when you come home. Many would consider Tarrytown to be an affluent neighborhood, but it's also one of the most friendly and inviting areas.

Dining, Entertainment & Shopping

There's nothing better than a freshly made brew, and Mozart's Coffee Roasters is easily a highlight of Tarrytown. The coffee house flame-roasts their beans on-site, offers a variety of baked goods and presents you with live music and patio seating for the all-inclusive hotspot when you want to sit back and relax while you enjoy your coffee.

Now known as Lake Austin and formerly known as Lake McDonald, Tarrywood is home to a magnificent water reservoir. The lake is perfect for cooling off on a summer day and a lively location for watching the sunset via shore or by boat. There's also a spa resort for those days you want a little extra R&R. Keep in mind swimming is not permitted further than 50 feet from the shoreline as a safety precaution.

As one of Tarrytown's most well-known restaurants, Hulu Hut is the perfect blend of Tex-Mex and Polynesian cuisine. The restaurant offers lake views and an extensive menu. Plus, they make some pretty stellar cocktails.

In the mood for some homemade soup or freshly made deli sandwiches? Food Food is a Tarrytown classic and local favorite.

Things to Do

Open since 1955, Westwood Country Club is a charming, family-oriented athletic club. The members-only facility is located on the lake's shoreline and features twentieth-century architecture with unbeatable views. Are you looking for a soothing recreational space that's pet friendly? Red Bud Isle is the place to be! This lakefront park is excellent for hiking, canoeing, kayaking, and outdoor activities.

As Tarrytown's home for contemporary and historical art, Laguna Gloria has both urban and natural exhibits that you can enjoy. The museum covers 18 acres and is one of Austin's most prominent locations. Expert tip: Thursdays are free entry.

Home of the "wild peacocks," Mayfield Park and Nature Preserve is something you can't miss. While the peacocks are technically free-roaming and not truly wild, they're still a sight to see. The park blends history with wildlife and sits on the edge of a bluff overlooking Lake Austin. You can explore a historic cottage at the preserve and enjoy the gorgeous gardens surrounding you, taking in stunning views spread across 20 acres of land.
